Why testing?
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is often asymptomatic and requires testing to determine the risk of a cardiovascular event.
In fact, 50% of men who die suddenly of heart attack had no previous symptoms.
Framingham Heart Study (one of the longest, most important studies analysing cardiovascular disease) has shown that 50% of people who had a heart attack had normal serum LDL cholesterol levels.
Unfortunately, this demonstrates that the standard lipids tests, commonly available and used in primary care, are not enough to determine the actual risk of the cardiovascular episode. They only tell us part of the story and are often unable to identify people who might be at risk of a heart attack.
The Cardiometabolic Profile offered in our clinic is an advanced blood test that evaluates the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, going above and beyond the basic traditional tests of serum total lipids, lipoprotein, and cholesterol levels. The test also looks at PLAC activity, which is a sensitive indicator of the active formation of fatty deposits in the arteries and the instability of advanced arterial plaque.
In short, the test measures lipoprotein sub-categories, arterial inflammation, and the activity of the PLAC in addition to the traditional CVD risk factors. The test also includes key metabolic biomarkers that are extensively associated with the pathophysiology of the condition.
Based on your unique test results, we can personalise your programme and give you accurate dietary and supplementation support where indicated. In addition, we can measure your progress and assess the effectiveness of the interventions so we know if our programme is working or if we need to make any modifications.
And trust me! Nothing will motivate you better than seeing actual test results on the paper!
So, who would benefit from taking the advanced cardiometabolic test?
Anyone who:
• has a family history of heart disease or diabetes
• has been diagnosed with heart disease or diabetes
• has been diagnosed with high blood pressure
• already takes medication to lower their cholesterol
• is overweight
• has high LDL
• has low HDL
• has high triglycerides
• wants to know their cardiovascular disease risk
• anyone over 40 years old
